Supporting Local Small Businesses
When you support local business you are keeping your towns pulse pounding. Healthy locally owned businesses feed healthy economies. When you decide to buy from your local small supplier you empower an actual person. As you know companies are their own legal entities, but those legal entities don’t have kids to put through school. They don’t have medical bills or even feelings. Companies are essentially machines and when they are broken countless people lose their jobs. When they do well only a few select fat cats at the top and shareholders benefit. Usually these role-players don’t even live in your town.
Independently owned stores have a harder job surviving because of these well oiled machines. Sadly, it is for no reason other than cost cutting. the small business owner takes personal accountability for quality. The small business owner painstakingly built supplier relationships from the ground up. The small business owner actually wants to get to know you because you are part of his/her ecosystem.
The only way we can make a difference -a visible, viable, sustainable difference is by supporting them.
Why support local business?
- When you shop locally you make an actual person do a crazy happy dance.
- Shop locally to send your communities children to school
- When you shop locally you make YOUR own town valuable
- Shop locally to keep money circulating within your community
- Stimulate creativity by empowering people
- Buy things from real people
- Shop locally to do the right thing – not the easy thing.
Did you know shopping locally is also better for the environment? Big brands put heavy strain on the environment transporting goods across the country from place to place from one central point. There is a whole extra step in there! Where as most local suppliers do their work in-house.
Remember if you are not in the market to buy anything right now you can also help small businesses by liking, sharing and spreading the word. Little businesses don’t have macro-marketing budgets.
Shopping local can also equal yummier food! If you buy from your local farmer instead of the big chain store your veggies and fruits will probably be fresher and have less nasties on them.
